The WHO are fighting the Covid-19 pandemic with everything they got. And so is the rest of the world. We all need to do what we can to get this under control – and to stay sane in the process. Part of doing so is not forgetting about the pandemic that was identified by WHO in 2012 already.
”While of a different nature, the world has been living with another pandemic for a number of years – physical inactivity (PI) and sedentary behavior (SB) According to the World Health Organization, 31% of individuals 15 years or older are physically inactive and approximately 3.2 million deaths per year are attributed to this unhealthy lifestyle behavior. ” (A tale of two pandemics: How will COVID-19 and global trends in physical inactivity and sedentary behavior affect one another?)
So what can we do? Some of us need to find new ways to exercice, some of us need to start exercising! We all need to move! For many of us our mental health is also depending on it. Some say the sofa is “our battlefield”. We say it’s our training shoes. Every sweaty t-shirt, every sore muscle, every lungful of fresh air is a victory.
This is the season of “buying”. We buy gifts, we buy stuff (because it’s on sale or we think we deserve it) and we buy food in a way that tips the scale of distribution even further. We can only recommend you to invest in something that is good for you and also helps save the world. Physical activity. It is also the season of giving. A box of chocolate might be nice to receive. Physical activity is better – and it shows you really care!
