MAX FRANKEL

Running Coach

Language spoken: English

COACHING EXPERIENCE:

Since he began coaching at the young age of 21, Max has been on a quest to understand everything he can about the dynamics of elite running and the marathon distance. A successful runner and mountain biker as a teenager, Max turned to coaching after having his collegiate running career cut short in 2018 due to injury.

While his athletic pursuits shifted to pursuing a professional cycling career following his injury, Max’s academic and personal interests remained in the sport of running, and he began coaching athletes on marathon buildups in 2020. By 2025, Max has coached multiple runners to sub-2:20 marathon finishes and ultramarathon wins on the elite side as well as many Boston Qualifiers, Ironman 70.3 and Ironman 140.6 World Championship qualifiers in triathlon.

Max lives in Boulder, Colorado where he works with athletes from all over the world, specializing in the marathon and shorter running events. Max believes that by working from a base of high-end speed and power, athletes can achieve performances even in low-end aerobic events they previously thought impossible.

PHILOSOPHY:

“Ambitious performance goals don’t have to be viewed only far in the distance. By focusing on being as intentional as possible, with science on our side, we can break goals down into every piece of the bridge we cross to get there.”
