Your own global support group. With proper “Pro tips”. That’s the short description of Team Envol. It’s also a story about the organic growth of a family business.
Envol Swimrun started with a group of friends training together in Stockholm. I had just discovered swimrun (thank you Daniel Hansson) and fallen in love with the sport in my new home country of Sweden. This was in 2014. In 2016 Team Envol emerged. At the time I was coaching triathlon and running, it was a natural step to move over to swimrun!
The group of friends grew and as the number of swimrun races grew people from other places asked if they could join the team as well. Of course! Suddenly there were French, a couple of Germans and some Brits on the team! The group who used to meet up south of Stockholm was slowly becoming a global community with an online presence. We would meet up at races around the world and the blue colour and rocket logo of Team Envol would soon be known on top of podiums as well as on thousands of training photos on social media from around the world.
You find us all over the place!
And this is still who we are today! A group of friends training together. Slightly better organised and with several experienced coaches making sure that the members have access to top notch training plans and coaching. What started as a group aiming to perform on a top level has evolved into a community where all levels are represented. We have members in Iran, Australia, Peru, a bunch in Poland and a growing number of fabulous people in North America, to mention a few.
We are around 300 individuals with very different backgrounds, faith and personality. We all have a passion for swimrun and that’s what matters. When you choose to join Team Envol, aka The Blue Nation, we assume you respect human rights, mother nature and equality for all. That’s about it. The rest we don’t really care about. Religion, sexual orientation and nationality all pretty much look the same in a wetsuit.
We want to make it easier for everyone to take the first steps into swimrun. We want to show that this is so much more than a sport, it’s a lifestyle (or at least part of it!). Going on a swimrun adventure in nature is guaranteed to fill you with more than endorphins and sore muscles. It will give you a sense of connection to nature that few sports can match.
More surfing than triathlon
We see swimrun as a sport closer to surfing or backcountry skiing than triathlon. It’s not all about the competitions. Competing is optional, thrill seeking and exploring mandatory.
But this sport wouldn’t exist without the race organisers. And it’s the races that let us experience new places in a safe and organised way. The rush of a start line and the celebration at the finish line is not to be neglected. We are still very proud every time we see our colours on a podium. Having World Champions on the team is a great inspiration for all of us.
The Team behind the Team
Today my wife Catarina Remires Axelsson and myself are working full time with Envol Swimrun. Marcus Barton, Tom Jenkinson, Trista Mennen, Sabina Rapelli, Agnese Signorelli, Tomas Granberg and Max Jenkinson are some of the coaches and pure swimrun enthusiasts that keep the wheels moving.
We were the first swimrun coaches. We intend to stay the best!
