The last day everybody was out the resort gate by 5:15 in the morning. A physically and mentally rather challenging week had one more ace up its sleeve. We wanted to get to the top of Morne Larcher before sunrise. Heading out with stars still in the sky and the sound of frogs in our ears, equipped with headlamps (or mobile phones!) the group reached the bottom of the climb together. Then it was every (wo)man for her and himself! We all did it. We all got to enjoy the first rays of the last day from a mountaintop with old and new friends by our side.
The eight days we spent in Martinique turned out to be eight days to remember. Some got to swim with turtles for the first time, some pushed themselves on longer runs than usual, others had real breakthroughs in their swimming. We polished our transitions and tried new gear. We had a great time getting to know some of the local athletes, making sure there will be more than one swimrun team coming out of Martinique in the future!
Everywhere we went we were met with curiosity, smiling faces and genuine interest. We ended the camp with cleaning the beach of Le Diamant, where we had stayed and had many training sessions. Two days later, in line at the bakery in Le Diamant I overheard a conversation where a lady said “last week, we had a group of swimrunners here, they were really inspiring training in all kinds of weather – they even cleaned the beach before they left!”
