There has no doubt been a lot of disturbing things going on this year. Some had an impact on more people than what is “normal”. Some events and people were just a bit more disturbing than “normal”.

Some claim that 2020 was just a long horror show. We disagree. It wasn’t all bad.

And let’s focus on what we know. Swimrun. Bad year for race organisers – no doubt. But was it a bad year for the sport? Not necessarily. This year we got the chance to lift our eyes from rankings and start lists and look at what is so unique about swimrun. Racing is fun, we love racing! But there is so much more to it.

Swimrun is an adventure, an experience and a lifestyle

Many people like to put swimrun in the same compartment as triathlon or aquathlon. We rather compare it to surfing. We believe the experiences you’ve had, the places you swimrun, the people you hang out with are more important than your most recent race result.

We really hope the racing calendar will start filling up for 2021, but regardless of that we have some other plans. Plans that could also be used as motivation and inspiration to train, to make sure you are physically and mentaly prepared for a grand swimrun adventure.

Swimrun group on rock in Stockholm archipelago

In 2020 we held a couple of swimrun camps in the Stockholm archipelago, on the Ötillö World Championship course. People who participated absolutely loved it. Most of them have never done the actual race. Most of them never will. But they could still experience the extraordinary nature and adventure it is to swim and run all the way from Sandhamn to Utö!

Plan an extraordinary adventure

We will do similar camps this year, but why stop there! We are planning similar adventures in other places. What would you think of swimrunning three days straight from Spain to France? Or somewhere else … This will not be an extreme challenge for top athletes only. This will be for those looking for an extraordinary adventure and an experience to remember.

We believe that there are a lot of people out there that would love swimrun if they only tried. It doesn’t have to be an extreme sport. Even if it can be! And don’t get us wrong, even if we want to open up the word of swimrun to those just looking for an outdoors experience we will still keep pushing the limits at the other end of the scale as well!
