For life on this planet to survive we all need to be just that – direct-action ocean conservationists.

Being a swimrunner we have a close relation to the water. Oceans, lakes and rivers are part of our playground. We know it’s dirty, we see it every time we get in. We also know the life that calls it home is being pulled out of it in a way and in a pace that is nowhere near sustainable.  Most of us probably try to do something but it isn’t always easy to know what to do!

Envol Swimrun have been looking for an organisation that we believe in to partner up with for quite some time. There are many out there. But what do they actually do?! After talking to the head of the Scandinavian branch of Sea Shepherd we feel that they are a very good match for us.

So expect to hear more from them in our channels in the future! When we do irl events they will be there to talk to you. In everything we do we will try to live up to the honour of being affiliated with them.  Do you feel like it’s time to get hands-on? Do not hesitate to volunteer for one of their campaigns. Boat crew, beach cleaning crew, donate some photos from the ocean – there are many possibilities!

To kick off our partnership we will donate €2 of the €10 registration fee from every swimrunner signing up to the Global Swimrun Challenge THE BIG BATTLE.

A bit about Sea Shepherd – in their own words:

The ocean environment is an intricately-balanced ecosystem designed to support and sustain marine wildlife. To truly thrive, they need safe sanctuaries to feed, mate and raise their young without pollution, destructive fishing gear, plastics and other marine debris that choke marine wildlife and destroy their habitats. Sea Shepherd opposes the pollution of the fragile ecosystem through off-shore drilling and fisheries, as well as the destruction of coral reefs from trawling, and the loss of coastal nesting sites from commercial development.

“We fight to preserve the planet because we recognize that we share the Earth with other species and that their well-being is inexorably linked to ours. We fight to preserve the planet because it is a matter of self-defense and we’ve taken the fight to sea.” – Captain Peter Hammarstedt

Uphold International Laws & Agreements

From its earliest years, Sea Shepherd has embraced the mandate of the United Nations World Charter for Nature to uphold international conservation laws when nations can’t…or won’t. Today, Sea Shepherd works with law enforcement agencies such as INTERPOL to help bring poachers to justice, and partners with national governments around the world to stop illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in their sovereign waters.
